oncomassage

Oncology Massage

It would seem that massage is returning to its rightful place alongside Doctors and Nurses in medical settings after long being relegated to the Sports and Spa world. The art and science of massage, through the decades-long work of dedicated professionals, has captured the attention of the medical establishment, the massage community, and most importantly, cancer patients who appreciate that informed touch has tremendous power to establish trust, alleviate suffering and facilitate healing. Oncology Massage takes into consideration the special needs of the person fighting cancer and cancer survivors. It includes modifications related to chemotherapy, such as peripheral neuropathy, radiation, lymph node removal and surgery. Techniques are adjusted in order to give the massage sessions in a safe, effective way.

lipomassage

Liposuction Massage

Manual Lymph Drainage is used to treat any swelling and lumpiness experienced after a liposuction procedure. This occurs when the body experiences what it perceives as a trauma, the immune system goes to work healing and repairing itself, and the result is often hardness or lumpiness to the areas treated with liposuction, Smart-lipo, or Cool Sculpting especially in the abdominal area and even more so if combined with other body contouring procedures. Because the immune system does not know the difference between an injury and a surgical procedure like liposuction, it reacts in the same way. Thus the techniques used are designed to move the lymphatic fluid from the surgical areas so that it can drain properly, facilitating improved appearance and the speeding up the recovery process. This also takes into consideration drainage to the axillary and supraclavicular regions which are necessary to treat after a breast augmentation in order to reduce muscle spasms and encapsulation.

postopmassage

Post-Surgical Massage

An important aspect of any surgical procedure is the post-rehabilitation recovery process. Post-operative lymphatic drainage massages play an important role as a supplement to standard rehabilitation procedures and can start as soon as 24 to 48 hours after the surgery, prompting accelerated healing right away and cutting down on time spent in bed. It relieves discomfort and removes cellular debris resulting from the procedure, reduces pain and inflammation, prevents subcutaneous fibrosis, prevents capsular contracture in breast augmentation, and accelerates the disappearance of bruising.

lymphemassage

Lymphedema Massage

Manual lymph drainage is one of the main components of complete decongestive therapy which performs the crucial role of re-routing stagnated lymphatic fluid in the treatment and management of primary and secondary lymphedema. Contrary to edema, a low-protein swelling, lymphedema is a disease rather than a symptom and its underlying cause, the insufficiency of parts of the lymphatic system cannot be reversed. Lymphedema does not dissipate by itself and continues to progress without adequate treatment. The goal of lymphedema management is to reduce the lymphedematous swelling to a normal or near normal size utilizing remaining healthy lymph vessels and other lymphatic pathways.

Manual Lymph Drainage is also called MLD. This is a special combination of basic and advanced techniques that reduces swelling. There are different types of Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) including Vodder, Leduc, Földi and Casley-Smith. You should only have MLD from someone who has been trained in one of these types.
